UNC Asheville’s Department of Management and Accountancy Maintains AACSB Accreditation

The Department of Management and Accountancy at UNC Asheville has received its second reaffirmation of accreditation from AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business – since first earning accreditation in 2004.

“Extension of AACSB Accreditation for the department confirms our commitment to high quality teaching, an exceptional liberal arts learning environment and the support for meaningful scholarship and service from the faculty,” said Bryan Schaffer, chair of the department and associate professor of management.

According to Schaffer, the AACSB peer review team was highly impressed with many aspects of UNC Asheville’s program including clear evidence of a strong and supportive advisory board, engaged and active students, high-level teaching and scholarship productivity from the faculty, and strong programs in internships and undergraduate research. The department's strategic plan and assurance of learning processes also were examined, and each was noted as being “mature and effective,” indicative of a faculty that is fully engaged in implementation activities.

“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International.

Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for programs that offer undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in business, management, and/or accounting. UNC Asheville joins the 502 U.S. colleges and universities, and 694 worldwide, that have gained this accreditation. Less than one-third of U.S. business programs earn this recognition.
