UNC Asheville will host its first fall 2017 Open House on Saturday, Oct. 14, giving college-bound students and their families a chance to talk with current students, meet one-on-one with faculty and staff, and discuss academic programs, financial aid, scholarships and the application process.

UNC Asheville’s reputation is growing in the national college rankings. In U.S. News & World Report’s “2018 Best Colleges” just published in September, UNC Asheville moved up to a tie for the seventh spot nationally among public liberal arts colleges, and additionally gained recognition for its undergraduate research program and for low debt burden among graduates. Also in September, UNC Asheville was listed by Princeton Review among the nation’s green colleges. The university’s main dining facility, Brown Hall, gained certification as a 3 Star Green Restaurant® from the Green Restaurant Association, and UNC Asheville was designated a Fair Trade University. Lunch is on the menu as part of the Oct. 14 Open House.

“UNC Asheville, with its emphasis on undergraduate research, internships, and a commitment to sustainability and community service, provides unusual opportunities for students to get involved and make a difference,” said UNC Asheville Senior Director of Admissions and Financial Aid Steve McKellips. “Students really need to see for themselves what that means to experience such a student-centered educational experience at North Carolina's only designated public liberal arts university. Learning about the academics tells part of the story, but it's just as important to learn about the close, personal relationships with staff and faculty that will be integral to their academic success and their transition into the national workforce. The Open House is the only place to see what it feels like to be a student at UNC Asheville – all in one powerful visit.”

Open House offers break-out sessions with faculty from academic departments and staff from university programs, including Study Abroad, Pre-Health Professions and Honors, as well as campus tours and a chance to learn about the variety of student organizations and activities.

Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the concourse of Kimmel Arena in the Sherrill Center, and the formal program will begin at 9 a.m. Preregistration is encouraged; complete information and online registration can be found at admissions.unca.edu/open-house.

One more Open House is scheduled this fall – it will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017.
