UNC Asheville raised $62,432 on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, surpassing its goal of $45,000.

The 270 donors contributed just over $24,000 to the student scholarship fund and more than $21,000 was designated to other categories, including specific scholarships, academic departments, and other university programs. More than $13,000 was designated to go toward UNC Asheville Bulldog Athletics, and almost $3,000 was given to the University Excellence Fund.

UNC Asheville’s Giving Tuesday fundraising was helped by a $10,000 matching gift from an anonymous donor which was “unlocked” when the total of other contributions reached $35,000 just before 5 p.m. The university’s Giving Tuesday campaign is being greeted with growing enthusiasm from donors – the total contributed this year was more than double the $29,420 raised on Giving Tuesday in 2016.

“Giving Tuesday is about coming together to make a difference,” said Vice Chancellor for University Advancement, Carla Willis. “It’s so fitting that in UNC Asheville’s 90th year, we not only exceeded our goal, but raised a truly historic amount in 24 hours. The generosity of the university community demonstrates the collective impact we can have when we work together. We’re very grateful for everyone who invests in our students, especially on Giving Tuesday.”

Through its foundation, UNC Asheville continues to receive donations to its scholarship funds and funds supporting other university programs and student needs. The UNC Asheville Foundation operates as an independent 501(c)(3) organization solely for the purpose of enhancing the growth and development of UNC Asheville. Gifts made to the foundation by Dec. 31 are tax deductible in 2017. For more information and to donate, visit giving.unca.edu.
