The UNC Asheville men's soccer team enjoyed success both on and off the field in 2001.
The Bulldogs, under head coach Steve Cornish, were underdogs going into that season. Even Cornish wasn't sure what to expect from his crew.
"We had graduated some talented strikers the year before and I just wasn't sure who would score for us," admitted Cornish. "I thought we had some talent but so much of it was unproven."
The Big South must have felt the same as the Bulldog program was a preseason pick to finish in last place for that upcoming season.
"And to be honest, I didn't get too mad about being picked last," added Cornish. "The Big South is an outstanding league for soccer with great programs up and down the board. We didn't focus on that at all. We just tried to get better with each game."
