Wednesday, August 20
S’mores and Music: Enjoy a lovely summer evening with your friends, a few tunes and everyone’s and favorite campfire snack. 7-9 p.m. in Mullen Park.
Thursday, August 21
Hip-Hop Violinist, SVET: You may remember SVET from his performance on “America’s Got Talent.” Hear this innovative musician—who has shared stages with Kanye West, Ceelo Green, The Black Keys and others—recreate your favorite hip-hop music on the violin. 7-9 p.m. in Highsmith University Union, Grotto.
Friday, August 22
Comedian Michael Yo: You don’t have to leave campus for a great Friday night show. Just head to Highsmith University Union to see actor, TV host and stand-up comedian Michael Yo, best known for his work on E!’s “Chelsea Lately.” 8-10 p.m. in the Grotto.
Saturday, August 23
Multicultural Fair: Learn about the various student groups and offices hosted by Multicultural Student Programs on campus. 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the main quad.
Sunday, August 24
Volunteer Trip: Venture off campus and spend your Sunday giving back to your Asheville community by volunteering with Asheville Greenworks in the River Arts District. 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., meet under the Highsmith University Union bridge at 10 a.m.
Monday, August 25
Montford Climbing Wall: Bring your sneakers—and your courage—and join Campus Recreation for a field trip to the Montford Gym to challenge yourself on the climbing wall. 5 – 8 p.m., meet at the Rocky statue at 5 p.m.
Tuesday, August 26
Get REC’d: Run down to the Sherrill Center (you’re going to need a good warm-up) for an evening of team challenges like Hunger Games dodgeball and pool battleship. 7 – 9 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.
Wednesday, August 27
Non-Violent Sexuality Talk with Bob Hall: Founder of Learning To Live With Conflict Inc., Bob Hall will give an interactive presentation on “making peace with passion…what everyone needs to know about sex, conflict alcohol and intimacy.” 8 p.m. in Highsmith University Union, Grotto.
Thursday, August 28
Roller Rink: Skate with your friends and fun music to really get your semester rolling! 8 – 10 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.
Friday, August 29
Fraternity & Sorority Recruitment: Thinking about joining in on UNC Asheville’s Greek life? The UNC Asheville Fraternity & Sorority Community has a number of programs during Weeks of Welcome to help you decide how to get involved—including a Panhellenic orientation for potential sorority members. Noon in Highsmith University Union, room 104.
Saturday, August 30
Blacklight Party: Blacklight mini-golf, games and ice cream—it’s the makings of a great Saturday night. 9 p.m. in Overlook Hall, multipurpose room.
Sunday, August 31
Soccer Games: Come support the Bulldogs in soccer games against Mars Hill and Brevard. The women’s soccer game against Mars Hill begins at 1 p.m. on the soccer field; the men’s game against Brevard follows at 3 p.m.
