Brown Hall Spices Things Up Over the Spring Semester

Students can look forward to a variety of new menu innovations and events at dining venues around campus in spring 2017.

Brown Hall will feature local guest chefs throughout the semester, and plans to offer new menu items geared towards wellness at the Create and Nourish stations like chicken yakisoba, kale and sweet potato bowls, and ratatouille barley salad, to name a few.

But menu additions aren’t the only thing to look forward to, as Dining Services will highlight one “super food” per month. February’s featured super food is, appropriately, dark chocolate. In addition, Brown Dining Hall has several themed meals coming up, including “Less Meat Monday,” “Spud Lovers Day” which includes a build-your-own-potato bar, “Build Your Own Cupcakes,” and a Mardi Gras celebration.

Look for new limited time offers at Highsmith Food Court and The Down Under as well. Signature dishes like California turkey burgers, buffalo cauliflower wraps, and Valentine’s-day-themed “Burning Love burgers” will be available periodically at the Austin Grille in the Highsmith Union. The Down Under in Overlook Hall will also feature a number of different signature wraps and sandwiches, including pesto caprese sandwiches and Greek flatbreads, over the course of this semester.

o Star of the Month – Josette Reynolds, who has run the register at Brown Hall since 2010, is being celebrated for her positive and caring personality as well as her dedication to UNC Asheville and its students and faculty. Her favorite dish, roast beef, will be featured on the Savor station.

o California Turkey Burger – Served at the Austin Grille in the Highsmith Student Union

 

Wednesday, February 8

o Celebrate your Chef – Live demo at Brown Hall by sous chef Brian Thornton at Nourish. Chef Brian is a pastry chef, so look for a sweet treat!

 

Thursday, February 9

o Chicken Yakisoba – Served at the Create station during dinner in Brown Hall

 

Friday, February 10

o World’s Best Chicken Sub – Served at the Austin Grille in the Highsmith Student Union

 

Monday, February 13

o V-day Cupcake Decorating – Come decorate cupcakes for Valentine’s day at Brown Hall during the lunch period, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Valentine’s Day dinner – reservations required for our three-course Valentine’s Day dinner, complete with servers, candlelight, and a delicious menu of steak, shrimp and other tasty treats
